Chincoteague Island Wildlife

Finally going to start painting again. It has been over one month. This is an oil that I have started of the marshes of the Eastern Shore of Virginiamarsh I will be concentrating on painting wildlife for the next month, in preparation of an exhibit for late November on Chincoteague Island. I was on Chincoteague in September for the Plein Air event and painted all week on location in various areas of the island. The exhibit at the end of the week was quite profitable for me, as I sold five out eight paintings I painted. I had a wonderful time, and survived a noreaster in September. Quite a change in weather from the Caribbean!

Oil Painting by Nancy Hogan Armour

This oil is now done, I finished it in one more session, since the past post . Today I will work on some more I have started. I believe I have shortened his legs a little. This painting is 12×24 inches and will be mailed to a gallery on Chincoteague Island, Virginia, that represents my art work. I have 2 others that will be sent this week also. Currently I am working on a Chincoteague  pony, that is soon to be finished.

Painting in progress day 2

Painting in progress day 2This is day two of an oil of a shorebird on the beach of Assateague Island. It is always good for me to see the painting on a screen instead of looking at it on an easel. You can see the flaws much easier. Using a mirror also helps. I have no idea why this works, but I can definitely see more errors in my paintings using this method. So now I will go paint, as I see his legs are looking too long!!

Oil painting progress

I started this painting yesterday and will keep a current progress on the painting daily, until I am able to finish it. With oil paints it can be a slow progress as I paint in thin layers on top of dry paint.

When you can conquer the art of procrastination, I am amazed at how productive I can be. This is another oil I finished recently. I am managing to keep several paintings in progress at one time and am painting almost daily now. I love being somewhat retired and my only responsibilities are my house, dogs and my  life, and which way I want to enjoy it.

New paintings finished

I sometimes have so many paintings scattered around my art studio., as was last week.
I finished a couple of Vieques Island and Chincoteague Island this week.

Nightmist Legacy..2009 Chincoteague Island Pony Swim Poster

Nightmist 2009 Chincoteague poster

Nightmist 2009 Chincoteague Island Pony Penning Poster

Nightmist was a great-grand foal  descendant of Misty of Chincoteague , immortalized by Marguerite Henry’s 1947 novel, Misty. This is the second painting that I have painted for my annual Chincoteague Island Pony Penning & Swim poster. The first one was in the year 2000. Nightmist died earlier this year, he would have been eleven years on July 9.

This painting is completed and the prints and posters are available.

“Living and painting the wild horses ,ocean and
wildlife of Assateague and Chincoteague Island has expanded my love of
painting for the last twenty eight years. The diversity in my maritime paintings
has intensified from living on Eastern Shore and in the tropical Caribbean.
The few years I spent living on a sailboat has inspired me to concentrate recently
on a series of waves, seascapes and tropical ocean studies. Now retired and living full
time on Vieques Island, Puerto Rico has inspired my painting to a new level I have not
felt since I was learning to paint”.
